Proposition 37, the California ballot initiative for the labeling of GMO’s, is attracting a lot of support from influential members of the food community. Over 125 chefs, including Mario Batali and Jacques Pepin have co-signed a passionate letter written by fellow chef and pro-organic activist, Alice Waters.
Speaking to her peers in the letter, Waters says that “As chefs, we are on the frontlines of feeding America and we have an enormous stake in ensuring transparency in our food system….We can’t prepare the best food we know how when information about the ingredients we purchase is hidden from us with labels that are missing the basic facts”.
By endorsing the petition, chefs across America are taking a strong stand in favor of the labeling of GMO’s and endorsing our right to know what’s in our food.
